A Taste of the Good Life

Kudos to Tomatoes
Here’s the latest “buzz” on Progresso Foods canned tomato varieties from several reputable, national media outlets. While we’re pleased to share their critiques, we thank our loyal consumers who continue to select quality Progresso ingredients for your favorite recipes and home menu specialties.

Plum Perfect
A panel of 20 Cook’s Illustrated tomato experts – all with a discerning taste for the canned vegetable variety – put 10 supermarket brands to the test. The results debuted in the magazine’s September/October 2005 issue, and Progresso® Italian-Style Whole Peeled Tomatoes with Basil were the cream of the canned crop. One taster described Progresso plum tomatoes as: “Mmmm – bright, lively flavor and silky texture.” Testers also compared American supermarket brands with more expensive gourmet Italian canned tomatoes imported from Italy’s San Marzano region, which is known for producing “fancy” harvested tomatoes. However, the final report from Cook’s Illustrated indicated that, “In a blind tasting, panelists remained loyal to Progresso, which beat out all the upscale brands.”

Italian-Style Whole Peeled with Basil a Favorite!
Popular daytime television talk show host and actor Tony Danza prepared his signature “Quick Italian Sauce” for viewers last May. The top two ingredients included two cans of plum tomatoes with basil. For the record, Danza said he preferred Progresso® Italian-Style Whole Peeled Tomatoes with Basil. According to the Italian host who features a daily cooking segment on his show, “The thing about this recipe is, you can’t ruin it.” Danza’s lifestyle show airs on the ABC-Television network.
